SNAKE VALLEY

by Brandon Sun Eagle Jent

After Joy Harjo’s line “See that stone finger over there?”

from her poem “Don’t bother the earth spirit”

Go to the strip job where they murdered him. See  that den of a thousand vipers your mother dreamed of, that  little place on Crafts Colley where they shoved his stone shredded face in a mud puddle and drowned him. Misty’s finger  coiled around a lit cigarette, his wallet in her pocket. David chucked his  corpse over  in the ditch line. Your mother dreamed of Snake Valley before the cops  found her father there.
